For years, “knee replacement” meant months of dread: big incisions, weeks in bed, a year of limping. Robotic assistance has rewritten that story. At Carewell, the implant is planned in 3D from your CT scan before surgery day — and the robot guides every cut to sub-millimetre accuracy. Most of our patients walk the corridor within 24 hours.
What the robot actually does
The surgeon remains fully in control; the robot is a GPS, not an autopilot. It maps your knee’s unique shape, shows ligament tension live on screen and prevents the saw from straying even a millimetre outside the plan. The result: balanced ligaments, natural-feeling movement and far less trauma to surrounding muscle.
Recovery, week by week
- Day 0–1: stand with support in the evening; walk a few steps the next morning.
- Week 1–2: walker to cane, stairs with rails, physio twice daily.
- Week 3–6: independent walking, driving (with clearance), return to desk work.
- Month 3: swimming, cycling and long walks; implants keep improving for a year.
Who is a good candidate?
Advanced arthritis with bone-on-bone pain, failed injections and knees that limit daily life — at almost any age. Even patients in their 80s do well because smaller incisions mean less blood loss. The exceptions: active infection, severely weak bone or uncontrolled medical conditions, all checked during your 3D joint assessment.
